In a noisy and raucous age the simple voice of the classical guitar takes the listener back to an intimate, personal musical environment. The guitar's natural sound, being unamplified, corresponds to the dynamics of the speaking human voice; its simple directness appeals immensely in the somewhat dehumanized context of industrial society.

〖A Concise History of the Classical Guitar(古典吉他简史,by Graham Wade)〗
Foreward(前言简介)
This book, intended for both the general public and guitar students of all ages, explores the history of the guitar from the 16th century to the beginning of the 21st century.
In writing this concise guide, I owe, first and foremost, my grateful acknowledgements to the many scholars who over recent decades have researched seemingly almost every aspect of Five hundred years of fretted instrument history. The footnotes and bibliographies will indicate the vast and amazing reservoirs of information now available to those who wish to explore individual areas in finer detail.
Classic guitar history is divided here into these categories:
  1500-1600:
    The evolution of music printing
    The vihuela in Spain
    The four-course guitar
The five-course Baroque guitar in Spain, Italy, France, etc.
Developments in the six string guitar
The Torres and post-Torres six string guitar
Between 1500 and 1900, the central issues involve:
    a) The surviving music and sources of each period
    b) Types of guitar used
    c) Composers/performers
    d) Recent research into the above areas (including relevant editions and recordings)
Moving past 1900, as sources of information multiply towards saturation point, emphasis has been placed on the following:
    a) The international expansion of concert activities by leading artists
    b) The content and development of guitar recitals
    c) New compositions and editions
    d) The work of Juthiers
    e) Recordings
